This is no big secret, type 1 diabetes is chronic, it’s a lifelong disease and the pancreas can’t produce insulin enough to control blood sugar levels. So, what more is there to be said?

Not much, if you got it you got it, but maybe you can alert someone else before they get it.

What is Type 1 Diabetes?

This type of diabetes is when insulin, which lowers blood sugar by allowing it to leave the bloodstream and enter cells, can’t do this anymore. Everyone needs insulin. People with type 1 diabetes can’t make their own insulin. They must take insulin every day.

This is done through injections , from one to four times a day.

People are taught how to give insulin injections by their health care provider or a diabetes nurse educator. If you a child injections may be given by a parent or other adult. By age 14, most children can be expected (but should not be required) to give their own injections.

Signs

Here are some common symptoms associated with diabetes:

Deep, rapid breathing

Dry skin and mouth

Flushed face

Fruity breath odor

Nausea or vomiting, unable to keep down fluids

Stomach pain

It should be noted that you can have another form of diabetes called Ketoacidosis, this is when you have high blood sugar readings. More common is low blood sugar.

Management

Once diagnosed, your treatment is to manage this condition.

Diabetes is a lifelong disease for which there is not yet a cure. However, the outcome for people with diabetes varies. Studies show that tight control of blood glucose can prevent or delay complications to the eyes, kidneys, nervous system, and heart in type 1 diabetes. However, complications may occur even in those with good diabetes control.

You know the score monitoring, diet, exercise, low sugar signs to watch for and how to quickly balance yourself.

Discipline and making adjustments is the key to long term health.

Natural Cures

Wow, researching this area one comes across a whole universe of options. One thing that makes sense is if you can catch this condition early, there is a chance to cure this. But, we have to be careful when stating this because any attempt to do this on your own could be damaging to your health.

Having said that, it’s worth to look at the options available through natural means. There’s some good data about how the immune system can attack your pancreas, this is an area you can look at.

Having type 1 diabetes definitely will force you to learn a lot more about how your body works, think of this as something positive.
